Tombstone Tuesday: Headstones with a Nautical Theme

Yesterday on my family history blog I shared the story of one of the mariners in my family tree, so I thought it was fitting on this Tombstone Tuesday to post images I've taken of headstones with a nautical theme. Only one of the stones featured here is for an actual mariner, an Admiral, but the other two are fine expressions of the idea that the deceased was the anchor of the family.

The stone reads:

In Memory Of
ADMIRAL
SIR BURTON MACNAMARA
Of Tromoro Co. Clare
Who Died 12th Decr. 1876
In his 83rd year

Also of
JANE, LADY MACNAMARA
His Wife
Who Died 16th APRIL 1875

The stone reads:

Sacred to the memory
of
ELIZA MARY
The Beloved Wife of
CHARLES FREDERICK MOORE M.D.F.R.C.S
Who Entered Into Rest 29th May 1896

‘Neither Pray I for these alone but for
them also which shall believe on me
through their word.’
St. John XVII. 20

Also to CHAs. REDk. MOORE M.D.F.R.C.S.
Entered into Rest Christmas Morning 1903
‘Rejoice in the Lord alway & again I say rejoice’
Phil. IV. 4

Also Their Eldest Daughter
EDITH ACRES MOORE
Who fell asleep Feb. 27 1923

The stone reads:

Erected By
KATE BARRY
In Loving Memory of Her Husband
GEORGE DAVID BARRY
Late of William St. Limerick
Who Died 26th November 1887 Aged 46 Years
